RULES AND REGULATIONS OF
THE 4th INTERNATIONAL ADAM DIDUR OPERA SINGERS’ COMPETITION
The Silesian Opera in Bytom, 31st March – 7th April 2019
1. The 4th International Adam Didur Opera Singers’ Competition organised by the Silesian Opera in Bytom, hereinafter referred to as the Organiser, with the cooperation of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, will be held from 31st March to 7th April 2019.
2. The competition is open to singers of all nationalities: graduates and students of music universities and conservatories,secondary schools, to soloists of opera houses and music theatres and members of professional choirs, who, on 01st April 2019, will be below the age of 32.
3. In order to apply to participate in the Competition a Candidate must:
1) submit application on the attached Application Form and send it either to the following address: Opera Śląska, ul. Moniuszki 21-23, 41-902 Bytom or submit it via electronic mail to: info@adamdidur.com; in the case of sending the application form by electronic means, it is necessary to deliver the originals of all sent documents to the office of the Organizer no later than on 31st march 2019 by 4 p.m.
2) pay a registration fee of PLN 430 or EUR 100 to the Silesian Opera bank account: ING BSK S.A. II o/Bytom [SWIFT: INGB PL PW] [IBAN: PL 14] 14 1050 1230 1000 0024 0833 5525 In the subject line please write full name of the Candidate and the following information: “registration fee for competition”. The registration fee is not refundable.
3) enclose to the application a short biographical information and colourful portrait photo (JPG format, A4 size, not less than 300 DPI) to be used in the competition programme booklet and Internet publications - this needs to be sent to the Silesian Opera address indicated above or submited via electronic mail to: info@adamdidur.com.
4. We will consider only complete applications submitted before 28th February 2019. After that date, the application will not be possible. The complete application includes: Application Form, proof of payment of registration fee, biographical information and photo.
5. The Candidates will be accepted for the Competition in the order the complete applications are received. Maximum number of 60 participants will be admitted for the Competition. If the number of applications in bigger, the Organiser may decide to accept more applications.
6. The Candidates shall be informed by 8th March 2019, if they have been accepted for the Competition.
7. Accepting the application is tantamount to concluding the agreement between the Silesian Opera in Bytom and the Candidate on participating in the Competition on conditions defined herein.
8. Travel expenses shall be covered by the Participant. The Organiser of the Competition shall cover the costs of accommodation and board of all participants qualified for Stage II and III of the Competition. The Organiser shall cover the cost of accommodation and board (until 10th April 2019) of the Participants performing during the Laureates’ Concerts. The Participants who will notqualify for Stage III shall check out from the hotel by 5th April 2019 as the Organiser does not cover the costs of accommodation and board of such Participants
9. The Organiser shall provide pianists, rehearsal rooms (subject to schedule) and transport from the place of residence to the place of Competition auditions. The Participants who wish to be accompanied by their own pianist shall cover all the related costs of stay of the accompanist.
10. The Participants accepted for the Competition shall report to the Competition Office (the Silesian Opera) on 31st March 2019 at 1pm – 4pm and shall present a document confirming their age.
11. The opening ceremony of the Competition shall take place on 31st March 2019 at 6pm before the evening performance of “Aida” by G. Verdi.
12. From the first stage of the Competition, the Participants will perform in alphabetical order, starting with the person whose name will be determined by a draw on 31st March 2019 at 6pm on the Main Stage of the Silesian Opera.
13. The Competition auditions, open to the public, shall take place in three stages, two sessions per day:
Stage I: 1st April 2019, 10am – 2pm and 4pm – 9pm 2nd April 2019, 10am – 2pm and 3pm – 5pm
in the Academy of Music in Katowice,
Stage II: 3rd and 4th April 2019, 11am – 2pm and 4pm – 8pm in the Silesian Opera in Bytom,
Stage III: 6th April 2019, 11am – 2pm and 6pm – 9pm in the Silesian Opera in Bytom.
14. The repertoire
1) in Stage I and II will be presented with piano accompaniment. The Participants are expected to have their own scores.
2) Stage III will take place with the Orchestra of the Silesian Opera. The Participants qualified for Stage III will have rehearsal with the Orchestra on 5th April 2019 at 10am – 2pm and 6pm – 10pm.
15. Renowned Polish and foreign opera singers, conductors, composers and opera directors will be invited to sit on the Jury of the Competition. Internal work regulations of the Jury will be defined during the first meeting of the Jury before the first auditions.
16. The Assumptions of Regulations of the Jury are the following:
1) The evaluation of a Participant (1-25 points) will be made directly after his/her performance.
2) The first 30 persons with the highest arithmetical mean will be admitted to Stage II, the first 12 persons with the highest arithmetical mean from Stage I and Stage II will be admitted to Stage III. The final results of the Competition will be established by adding the arithmetical means obtained in Stages I, II and III.
3) The members of the Jury do not evaluate their own students; a Participant is considered a student, if at any time he/she was taught or consulted by a member of the Jury.
4) During the Competition all documents and the evaluations made by the members of the Jury are strictly confidential.
5) Verdicts issued on the basis of the evaluation made by the Jurors are final.
6) After each meeting of the Jury, the minutes will be made which shall include the names of the Participants admitted for the next stage.
17. The following regular prizes shall be awarded by the Jury:
1st Prize PLN 64 500 (equivalent of EUR 15 000)
2nd Prize PLN 43 000 (equivalent of EUR 10 000)
3rd Prize PLN 30 100 (equivalent of EUR 7 000)
3 Honorary Mentions PLN 12 900 (equivalent of EUR 3 000)
Prize for the best accompanist PLN 4 300 (equivalent of EUR 1000)
18.The Jury reserves the right not to award all the prizes or to make a different division of prizes and their amounts, with the provision that the amount of the 1st prize shall be indivisible and the total amount designated for the prizes shall not increase.
19. Apart from the standard prizes, there will be other non-statutory prizes founded by institutions and private person who will be fully responsible for their implementation. The Organiser shall not be liable for the failure to implement or for improper implementation of the non-statutory prizes by the founders.
20.The payment of financial prizes shall be made as agreed on with the laureate (in cash or by bank transfer), after deduction of the obligatory tax, within 30 days from the end of the Competition. In case of payments made in Euro the Organiser has adopted the following calculation used to determine the value of the prize: EUR 1 = PLN 4.30.
21.The Participants of Stage II who do not qualify for Stage III will receive the diplomas of participating in the 4th International Adam Didur Opera Singers’ Competition.
22.The awarding ceremony will be held during the Laureates’ Concert on 7th April 2019 at 6pm in the Silesian Opera in Bytom. All laureates of prizes and honorary mentions shall participate in the concert (free of charge) and in its repetition on 9th April 2019 in the Władysław Wyspiański Silesian Theatre in Katowice. Should a laureate be absent on the laureates’ concert it will meanthat she/he has waived their right to the financial prize. Moreover, the laureates shall participate in one of three concerts promoting the laureates and suggested by the Organiser - in Cracow, Pszczyna or Sanok. Additional remuneration will be paid for participating in the promotional concerts. The Organiser reserves the right to arrange with each laureate individually the date of the concert and the repertoire.
23.The Participants of the Competition shall transfer their copyright and property rights for the artistic rendition presented during all stages of the Competition and laureates’ concerts to the Silesian Opera so that the Silesian Opera may use them without any restrictions as to the territory of time frame in the following exploitation fields: recording in all possible formats (photographs, audio, video), multiplying on any sound and visual carriers, introducing them for circulation, saving them on a computer and in the Internet and publicly playing, displaying, leasing and hiring them, broadcasting (wired, wireless and satellite) as well as re-emission and re-transmission of them.
24.The Participants of the Competition shall grant their permission for distribution of their image recorded by means of any photo and recording technique with reference to the participation in the stages of the Competition and the laureates’ concerts.
25.Pursuant to the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27th April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, we hereby inform that:
1) The Controller of the data is the Silesian Opera in Bytom, ul. Moniuszki 21-23, 41-902 Bytom.
2) Przemysław Wolski is the Personal Data Protection Officer.
3) The personal data is collected for the purposes of implementation of the following task: The 4th International Adam Didur Opera Singer’s Competition.
4) Personal data is collected for the purposes of archiving and popularising the Competition by placing images on web page, social media, in promotional, archive and press materials.
5) Personal data may be made available to other authorised entities on the basis of legal provisions.
26. Participants shall have the right to access their personal data , to correct it, to amend, to delete the data processing, to object to the manner of processing the data, to process the data and to lodge a complaint to the supervising authority.
27. Personal data shall be kept for the period of time required by the archiving provisions to which the Silesian Opera in Bytom is subject.
28. Providing personal data is voluntary, yet it is necessary for execution of the indicated task and for admission for participation in the Competition.
29. The Rules and Regulations have been drawn up on in two language versions: Polish and English. Any doubts relating to the provisions included herein shall be settled on the basis of the Polish text as the prevailing one.
30. Decisions related to organisational matters, beyond the duties of the Jury or the Competition Director, shall be made by Łukasz Goik, the Director of the Silesian Opera. His decisions are irrevocable and unappealable.
31. In matters not regulated by the Rules and Regulations the suitable provisions of the Polish law shall be applicable.
